Just today I fostered a stafXrdgbk 18mthFshe keeps biting my ankles only me not hub or kids&follows me around?
She is well behaved and has great manners otherwize. She has been living in a shelter for a year of her short life but has had lots of contact with adults more recently and for the first six months lived in a house full of kids. She follows me everywhere I go.She nips at my ankles but only when I go outside on the lawn. Really strange. I do not want to get cross at her and have been turning my back and trying to walk away but she rolls on her back and puts her head between my feet (while I am walking away and trying to ignore her) and grabs at my ankles with her teeth, I know she does not mean to hurt me but is there any thing I can do to stop this behaviour while she is staying with us and hopefully for ever. Like I said she does not try with the kids or my hubby, just me. My kids are 10, 6 and 2. She is very gentle with them.
Because she is only doing it outside I would venture to say that she is trying to get you to play. She may want one on one play time with you, no other people and no toys involved. Try just taking her outside and paying some extra attention to her. If she continues to bite at your ankles you could try carrying a small bottle of water with you and anytime she nips give her a little squirt she will most likely be shocked and after a few times will start to get the idea to stop. The down side of this is if she likes the water she may continue to nip to get sprayed with the water.
